World’s Leaders magazine proudly profiles Zarine Manchanda — a woman whose life journey exemplifies innovation, resilience, and generosity. Born in the serene Himalayan town of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, Zarine’s early life was steeped in public service and influence. As the daughter of a Minister, raised near the spiritual home of the Dalai Lama, she grew up with a strong sense of purpose and community.
After completing her studies, Zarine set her sights on Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. But when the entertainment industry proved tougher than expected, she embraced a new calling — one that combined leadership, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship. In 2019, she founded the Zarine Manchanda Foundation in Aarey Colony, Mumbai, laying the groundwork for a new chapter of service and impact.
Building a Legacy of Service and Innovation
Within just two years — even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic — the Foundation organized over 500 food and clothing drives, establishing itself as one of Mumbai’s most trusted charitable institutions. This success gave Zarine the confidence to enter hospitality with the launch of the Zarine Manchanda Café, a luxurious and spiritually themed dining space known for its tagline “Delicious, Luxurious Spiritual Charm.”
The café offers an immersive experience — refined interiors, sophisticated tableware, and the calming sound of Tibetan Bells from Dharamshala. Its distinctive design was crafted by Zarine Manchanda Interiors, her own interior design firm. Her innovation in hospitality earned her the title of introducing India’s first “7-Star Café” experience, which she now plans to expand nationally and internationally through a franchise model.
Recognitions That Speak Volumes
Zarine’s trailblazing efforts have garnered significant recognition. She has graced the cover of FEMINA, was featured in its “Fabulous 50 Women” list (2020), and was named one of India Today’s “45 Most Influential Indians” the same year. The Economic Times praised her business growth, while the Times of India honored her as a Young Philanthropist in 2021.
Her accolades go beyond the media spotlight. Zarine is a two-time National Award winner, has received two Governor Awards from Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, and was presented with the Nelson Mandela Peace Award, accompanied by an honorary Doctorate for her contributions to India’s underserved communities.
In 2022, she continued to receive high honors, including the All India Council on Human Rights & Social Justice Award, Midday Magazine’s “Power Woman Award,” and the title of “Iconic Young Entrepreneur & Philanthropist of the Year” at Mumbai’s Governor’s House. She was also named “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” in Delhi, where she was invited as Guest of Honor.
The Mindset Behind the Success
At the heart of Zarine’s success lies a philosophy built on discipline, strategy, and vision. She has handpicked a core leadership team to ensure smooth operations across her enterprises. Her guiding belief: true excellence demands meticulous preparation and flawless execution — much like crafting a masterful dish.
Inside the Zarine Manchanda Foundation, she has implemented robust performance management systems, including 360-degree feedback, to align staff strengths with organizational goals. This approach not only improves performance but also fosters respect, recognition, and opportunities for personal growth.
The “Princess of the Poor” with Global Ambition
Nicknamed “Princess of the Poor” by the Indian media, Zarine draws inspiration from Princess Diana and Mother Teresa. With a mission to become a “Mother to Millions,” she continues to blend entrepreneurship with humanitarian efforts, creating a model of leadership that uplifts communities while building innovative businesses.
