Instead of detecting anything composed of metal, the goal is to identify concealed weapons and other objects that could represent a threat to Metro passengers using modern technologies that are much less evasive than conventional metal detectors.
Officials will assess the technique’s effectiveness as it is monitored.

According to a media release, Metro will start checking passengers for concealed weapons at the C Line Norwalk station and will evaluate the technologies for a year at several important stations to determine whether they can be a useful, extra layer to its comprehensive approach to safety, which has included installing modern fare gates, improving the environment, increasing the number of uniformed personnel, and implementing care-based strategies.
